FACS Newsletter Special/2004
Congratulatory Message to All Members of Federation of the Asian Chemical Societies on the Occasion of FACS 25th Anniversary Celebration
June 25, 2004
It has been twenty-five years since Federation of Asian Chemical Societies was first created. The establishment of the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies was suggested by the Division of Scientific Education & Research of UNESCO in February, 1978, and was achieved in August 1978 by the eleven foundation chemical societies of Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Intention of establishing Federation of Asian Chemical Societies was to promote the advancement of chemistry and the interest of professional chemists in the Asia-Pacific region in a way which does not detract from the autonomy of any of the member societies. During these 25 years, the total number of member societies has increased to 27 and FACS has played critical role on all our chemical societies through its continuous hard work. For this, all former and current executive councils of FACS deserve much appreciation. On behalf of members of the Korean Chemical Society, one of the foundation members of FACS, I would like to take this opportunity with delight to congratulate FACS 25th anniversary and convey special thanks to all council members. The KCS has participated with zeal in achieving the objective of FACS and will do the same in the future for the development of FACS. Especially, being as a local organizer of the 2nd Asian Chemical Congress in 1987, the KCS is again very proud of holding the 11th ACC and the 13th General Assembly in 2005. We hope these meetings become an opportunity for FACS to be developed. Again, we congratulate FACS¡¯ 25th anniversary.
