Federation of Asian Chemical Societies 25th Anniversary Celebration

As President of FECS and on behalf of the FECS General Assembly and its 50 member societies in 36 countries across Europe, together representing 150,000 members, I have pleasure in conveying sincerest greetings and warmest congratulations to FACS on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

FACS as a major regional grouping of learned societies is an important member of the worldwide network of organisations working to support chemical sciences and the positive contribution of chemical scientists.

Chemical sciences underpin the excellent quality of life enjoyed by the world today. Many areas, such as new materials, biotechnology, agriculture and food, require an increasingly detailed understanding of the molecular world provided by the chemical sciences. Sustainable progress in health care, environmental protection and wealth creation is also dependent on advances in chemical sciences.

Federations such as FACS, through its member societies, have a pivotal role to play in promoting the importance of chemical sciences, facilitating networking and collaboration between researchers both in academia and industry, and providing role models for young people. By working together Federations and their member societies can promote coherent messages and responses on global issues and provide authoritative independent scientific advice to help inform debate on the issues of the day.

FECS was formally established in 1970. Through Dr Wolfgang Fritsche - formerly FECS General Secretary and now Honorary Life President ¨C FECS was pleased to be able to contribute to the early discussions about the creation of FACS.

Today our two Federations have a common purpose in promoting the advancement of chemical sciences and the practice of chemistry and we share a common vision to improve the quality of life for all across the globe.
