Distinguished Contribution to Advancement in Chemical Education 
2003 FACS Awardee

Associate Professor Charles L Fogliani
Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, Australia.

Charles Fogliani has obtained the degrees of BSc, DipEd from the University of New south Wales and a MSc (Hons) from Macquarie University.

He is currently Associate Professor and Head of the School of Public Health at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, Australia. In the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours list, he was appointed Member of the Order of Australia for services to education, particularly in the Advancement of Chemistry Education. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI). 

Charles Fogliani's research interests are in the general area of Chemical Education including low cost chemical instrumentation. He is the organiser of the Australian National Chemistry Quiz, which is a unique chemical education activity in the world. It provides a major focus for secondary school students on the relevance of chemistry in an exciting and stimulating way. The Quiz is run throughout Australia and 14 neighbouring countries. It provides the opportunity for collaboration and co-operation between member societies of FACS.

Charles Fogliani has edited the "Australian Chemistry Resource Book". In all, 19 volumes of the Resource Book have been produced. He is the recipient of several awards including the 1998 New South Wales Council of Professionals Award for Outstanding Professional Services to the Community, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Citation for long and distinguished services to National Chemistry Week, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Chemical Education Division Citation for 1986 and the FACS Inaugural Award for Distinguished Contribution to Advancement in Chemical Education in 2003.
