Allied Industrial Becomes First Producer of Beta Carotene in Asia

Allied Industrial Corp. Ltd. has successfully launched its new product, Beta Carotene, becoming the third producer in the world and the first Asian producer of the product, ranking next to Roche and BASF. Through Allied's unwavering dedication and pursuit of excellence in research and development along with partial financial support by the Industrial Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the cooperation of Union Chemical Laboratories and the Biomedical Engineering Center, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Allied has transformed itself into a fine chemicals corporation possessing the technology to produce high value added products and enhancing Taiwan's international competitive edge in the global market.

Beta Carotene is a member of the carotenoids group with properties which contribute greatly in the maintenance of human health. It not only plays a significant role in antiaging, cancer prevention, and the elevation of one's immunity system, Beta Carotene can also function as an anti-oxidant, preventive cure for nyctalopia (night blindness), growth promoter, UV radiation blocker, and as an edible colorant in foods.

The benefits of Beta Carotene are widely recognized causing tremendous growth in its uses. Beta Carotene is used in health care products, colorants, food additives, feed additives and cosmetics (for UV protection and anti-wrinkle formulas).

Beta Carotene serves as Allied's entrance in the carotenoids arena. With an estimated production of 10 to 15 tons for the year 2000, Allied will build on its strong research and development capabilities and continue to provide quality products to the world.
