FACS 2001 Awards/Citations in Progress     

To promote the advancement of Asian chemistry related fields, FACS has established a series of awards to recognize the contributions of outstanding chemists in the Asia-Pacific region. The awards comprise the earliest award, FACS Foundation Lectureship, established in 1987, Distinguished Young Chemists Award. Distinguished Contribution to Economic Advancement and Citations for Contributions to Chemistry and the Chemical Profession. 

The total number of past awardees has exceeded 30 from 14 member societies. These awards have significantly contribution to technology promotion and advancement in chemistry related fields. The FACS awards were granted every two years. The 2001 Award Ceremony is going to be in Brisbane, Australia. There are already 18 candidates from 10 member societies to compete for the awards. 

The Guidelines of 2001 FACS AWARDS / CITATIONS are shown below:

FACS Foundation Lectureship. A nomination is invited from member Society for this lectureship. The Lecturer shall be an eminent chemist who has made distinctive contributions to the profession of chemistry. The 2001 award will be in the field of Analytical Chemistry. The lecture shall be presented at the 9th Asian Chemical Congress, Brisbane, Australia, July 2001. The nomination shall contain: curriculum vitae; contributions to Analytical Chemistry in the past 5 years; list of important publications; and title of proposed lecture if successful.

FACS Distinguished Young Chemists Award. A nomination is invited from member society for this award. The age of the awardee shall not exceed 40 years of age as of the January 1st, 2001. The 2001 award shall be in the field of Organic Chemistry. This lecture shall be presented at the 9th Asian Chemical Congress, Brisbane, Australia, July 2001. The nomination shall contain: curriculum vitae; contributions to Organic Chemistry in the past 5 years; list of important publications; and title of proposed lecture if successful.

FACS Award for Distinguished Contribution to Economic Advancement. A nomination is invited from member society for this award. Nominee should have made significant contributions towards the economic advancement of the Asian region through chemical research. The work shall cover the period of 10 years preceding the award with the major proportion of the work having been done in a member country of the Federation whilst the candidate was a member of chemical society in that country. The contribution shall be judged on evidence including lists of papers, patents, and reports on work covering the period 10 years preceding the award. The successful applicant will deliver a lecture on the occasion of the presentation of the Award at the 9ACC. 

FACS Citations for Contributions to Chemistry and the Chemical Profession. Nominations are invited for the award of up to 3 citations for 2001. The adjudication panels recommendations shall be based upon the significant service to the FACS in any of the following areas:
i Research, development or applications of chemistry
ii Chemical education
iii Promotion of chemistry
Nominations for the citation shall include a general statement of the nominees contributions to chemistry and/or the chemical profession together with curriculum vitae and any relevant details of publications, patents and other supporting material.
