Pacifichem 2000 Some 6,000 reports on current research and development will be presented in about 180 symposia in oral, general and poster sessions in the following 10 topical areas: 1. Agrochemistry-including agriculture, cellulose, carbohydrate, pulp, and paper chemistry 2. Analytical Chemistry-including clinical, electrochemical, and trace analysis 3. Bioscience and Technology-including microbial and pharmaceutical chemistry 4. Chemistry and the Community-including chemical education, chemical economics and business, and public education and outreach 5. Environmental Chemistry 6. Inorganic Chemistry-including geochemistry and nuclear chemistry 7. Macromolecular Chemistry 8. Medicinal Chemistry 9. Organic Chemistry 10. Physical and Theoretical Chemistry The Congress will feature: Ronald Breslow Professor of Chemistry Columbia University Pacifichem 2000 Plenary Lecturer An exposition of chemically-related scientific products and services Friday, December 15 through Sunday, December 17 Pre-and post-tours of neighboring islands Student Poster Competition The deadline for invited or contributed abstracts in paper format is April 3; the deadline for abstracts submitted electronically is April 14. To encourage attendance at the Congress by young chemistry professionals from developing countries that border the Pacific Ocean, the Sponsoring Societies of pacifichem 2000 are making available up to 40 grants plus complimentary registration to assist with travel and attendance costs.
