Kuwait Chemical Society

Establishment

The Kuwaiti chemical society is one of several and diversified scientific societies in Kuwait that serve the public. It was founded in 1982.

Objectives

The society was charged with the following objectives (Statutory Act):

  • Nurturing occupational interests, and development of scientific standards and capabilities of members in various fields of chemistry.
  • Linking the Kuwaiti society with the society through programs, seminars, media awareness, etc., in order to improve the public scientific knowledge.
  • Studying the occupational status of chemists in various fields in Kuwait, in order to suggest the best occupational environments and standards.
  • Developing and enhancing the society's activities in order to be in excellent standards, comparing to Arab and international sister societies.
  • Exercise all feasible means to develop the Arabic language to be the mean and the language for science and technology in the Arab world via translation and in coordination with sister Arab chemical societies and other concerned bodies.
  • Initiate and enhance linkage with sister Arab and foreign chemical societies and seek to exchange with them the expertise and scientific data out puts.
  • Emphasizing the role of Arab chemists in various fields of chemistry throughout history via several means, such as publishing scientific periodicals and exchanging data about important achievements in chemistry.


Activities

The Kuwaiti chemical society is an active member of the following bodies:

Union of Arab Chemists (UAC).

Federation of Asian Chemical Societies (FACS).

International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

The society has prominent activities on both local and international levels. On the local level, it embraces, sponsors, and organizes meetings, workshops and lectures in Kuwait in many fields that might be of interest to the chemists, and other professionals, in cooperation with other public-serving societies and governmental or private sectors. It also sponsors some other social activities that are enjoyed by its members. On the international level, delegations and representatives of the society have been attending major conferences and meetings, dealing with chemistry and chemical issues, that are organized or held by several international bodies in which the society is an active member and enjoying good relations with, throughout the world.

Publication

The society has been publishing a quarterly non-refereed journal titled "journal
of the Kuwaiti chemical society" in Arabic language, to provide specialists and
researchers who are working in various fields in chemistry in different sectors
and mode of production in Kuwait and the Arab states with diversified matters,
issues, news, etc., in all aspects of chemistry and other related sciences.

Administration Board

A board of nine members, selected through election, governs the society for a
period of two years.

Membership

Membership in the society is opened for Kuwaitis (and non-Kuwaitis to a
certain extent), provided that the applicant adheres to society statutory code
and exercises his ability to achieve society's objectives. This membership is
divided into three categories:

1) Active Members:
Granted to Kuwaitis holding B. Sc. degree (or equivalent) or higher in
chemistry.

2) Joining Members:
Granted to Kuwaitis holding degree less than B. Sc. in chemistry, and non-
Kuwaitis holding B. Sc. degree (or equivalent) or higher in chemistry.

3) Honorary Members:
Endowing by the administration board to any person contributed to the
objectives of the society.

4) Dignitary Members:
Granted to those from either the government or the private sector who are
concerned about chemistry and applied to join the society.

Annual Membership subscription

Companies and governmental sectors: 100 Kuwaiti Dinars.
Individuals: 5 Kuwaiti Dinars.
