The FACS Statutes
The Federation of Asian Chemical Societies The Federation of Asian Chemical Societies (FACS) was formed on 15 August 1979. Its organization heralded the beginning of a new era of regional cooperation among chemists and chemical societies in the Asian region. Its formation was proposed by the UNESCO Division of Scientific Education and Research to provide a channel of communication and collaboration among the chemical societies in the region. The FACS was initially composed of eleven founder societies from the following nations: Australia, Hongkong, Indonesia, India, Iraq, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The number of member societies increased in the succeeding years, reflecting the progressive activities of the Federation. Presently, the Federation includes twenty-five member societies. Individual membership in the FACS was initiated in 1991 to promote a more active involvement of individual chemists in the Asia-Pacific region. Individual members are placed on direct mailing list for all FACS publications and circulars. Since its inception, the FACS has been carrying out various types of activities to fulfill its objectives.:
